Project Overview
What is the purpose of this project?
This project will resurface Mendenhall Loop Road between the Haloff Way/Stephen Richards Memorial Drive roundabout and the Mendenhall Boulevard/Valley Boulevard intersection, and construct a new roundabout at the intersection of Mendenhall Loop Road, Mendenhall Boulevard, and Valley Boulevard.
What construction activities will take place?
These projects include paving, roundabout construction, utility relocation and improvements, drainage, curb and gutter, and sidewalk.
How will construction affect me?
Access to businesses near the work zone will not be affected.
Residents and travelers should expect altered traffic flows, construction noise within reason, and construction equipment and trucks moving through the area to the work zone.
Construction Update
Planned Construction Activities and Impacts
Construction on the JNU Loop Road Projects began July 22, 2026, and will continue through September 30, 2026.
Activities and schedule are weather dependent and will include paving, roundabout construction, utility relocation and improvements, drainage, curb and gutter, and sidewalk.
Traffic Control Plan
Traffic control will include detours for vehicular, pedestrian, and bicycle traffic and flagging. Typical traffic flows through Mendenhall Loop Road will be maintained as much as possible with adequate detour routes for impacted side streets.
Impacts to Residents and Businesses
Business access near the work zone will not be affected.

Current Construction Activities
- For the week of August 24: Nighttime activities will include asphalt milling , excavation, and paving. Night work is pursuant to CBJ permit number CNP20260003.
- For the week of August 31: Daytime activities will include temporary striping, survey, and invasive plant removal.
- Work will pause from September 3 through 7 in observance of the Labor Day holiday.
